Default yamaha 60 hp lower unit

I have a 2000 model yamaha 2 stroke outboard. The lower unit will not go into neutral. I have the lower unit off and the shift rod when turned manually just goes from forward to reverse, no neutral.

Any Idea whats wrong?

something inside the shift linkage has bent, broken or come loose.

you will have to take it apart to see but no neutral is better news then no forward or reverse. at least I would think the gears are fine if you have forward and reverse.

this is what it looks like: http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Ya...201/parts.html

Thanks to a few guys who messaged me I got the lower unit tore down and found a bad shifter tab and shift rod had a slight bend in it. Parts are on order and should be in this week. Installed new seals while I was in there. The lower unit doesnt look to be near as intimidating as I thought as long as you dont have to start shimming gears for lash and such.

Thanks again..... I will keep yall posted
