Default Want to fish Houma area

Is there a speckled trout bite at this time? Like to come up in about a week. Or would you suggest I try some other area. My daughter will be with me and want her to like fishing by catching fish. She is 19 and has done well in past trips which has been few and far between.
I only mentioned Houma because I stayed there before and know a restaurant to eat. I also know a place to bring back oysters there. Any help would be just great.
Thanks

The places around Houma that I fish durring the winter are
The south east side of Lake DeCade
North side of Lake Boudreaux and the dead trees in the lake and dead end canals around the lake
Catfish Lake and the dead end canals off of the lake
North side of Lake Chein

Cocahoe or voodoo any where from 2 feet to 5 feet under a cork depending on the water depth.
All with in 30 minutes of Houma

Its also a real good time to fish for Sac Aux Lait, White Perch and Crappy around the Bayou Black area. Freshwater cats are biting real good too.

I fished the Fowl River thanksgiving in Alabama for specks and did ok. They go into the rivers and hung bottom in winter months. I thought they likely do same in LA although you have a different backyard.
Just wondered if those stringers of lots of specks I see of folk fishing LA can be had around this time also. Just don't want to take my daughter on goose chase.
Rather catch specks than reds or other kinds of fish.

Don't worry there is plenty of room out there to get away from other people. Even in the busiest summer months you can fish alone. It's a huge area.

We had a good mixed bag of Trout, Reds, Flounder and bass AKA Green trout Tuesday. I had my 8 year old with me, so when the wind picked up we went to a protected area to let dead shrimp sit on the bottom for drum and sheepshead but we kept bring up trout on DEAD shrimp! Trout where biting at the bass fishing spot. Trout were everywhere, but not stacked up anywhere.

I am wanting to come down next week and since my time is short want to do a charter but want to catch specks and I can add sheepshead be nice. I want my daughter to have a good experience catching fish.
I am also asking for the future where to start in learning how to fish area.
I'm not asking for honey holes on a forum although there are PM. But I do want to learn how to fish LA instead of going as I have to Alabama or Florida. LA is closer and my boat is suited for shallow water.
There is so much area to fish and I just asking your help to narrow it down. I prefer to do offshore but never been able to find those to help pay charter cost.

Latravcha gave you the best info to get you started. We all fish those areas. Those are perennial hot spots. But there are hundreds of spots in between. Just get out there and fish.

Gets shallow ear the dead trees in Boudreaux. Also, you can slow bounce and roll chartreuse beetle or blue and white jig in Boudreaux canal in about 15-20 ft of water. You will be between the bridge and wier. Had a buddy catch a limit by himself couple days ago and you will burn about a roller in fuel!

If you want to do a charter call one of these Capts: Bill Lake, Rob Dupont, or Travis Miller. You can google their names for contact info. Tell them what you want and they will be honest with you about your chances to catch trout.

I have done some charters with Ron Dupont, he is called me to reschedule trips not because there was dangerous weather, but because conditions where poor for fishing... and he was right every time. I took my son out Tuesday and we had had a blast, his favorite parts are going fast on the boat and eating the fish.

I use Elton Rodrigue and Rob Dupont, if they are ever booked when I want to go I am going to try Travis next. I probably won't make it again until late January, but the weather has been so nice, I might sneak a trip in.
