Question Fishing Question

saw some people fishing this past weekend in VB, wondering what kind of technique these guys were doing, they were fast jerking their poles 90 degrees like they were setting the hook on a bull red, then they would let the pole sit for a minute, then jerk again, confused me, i have never fished this way and never before seen anyone do that, is that some thing that works? what exactly is that method

Watched a boat doing this from the beach at the state park around this time last year... Wore the trout slap out, people would pull up and not catch a thing.

I've seen it too in Weeks bay. An old timer was doing that right next to me and was crushing the trout with boats all around him. I was by him too and gave it at try and caught a few. LOL

Seen an old timer fishing trout offshore like that with a matrix shad. He would rip it back towards him then let the current take it back. He was catching a good few.

About 12-15 years ago when I first started taking kids fishing at trash pile, people were tearing the trout up with that method. Jerk like your setting hook, reel, jerk, reel... we weren't catching until a guy told me what I was doing wrong (slow jigging). Don't see many fishing like that any more, and I've not had great luck with it since. Well, I don't have great luck fishing anyway....

It's gonna be funny when the next time you go fishin in the cove everyone will be jerking their rods like crazy! Seen many years ago Mary Poe using that technique in BL.

After seeing that old man do it a few years ago, I still try it everytime I go. I just doesn't last very long because I lose confidence and stop.

The main reason to work your bait like that is to produce a reaction strike from the trout, you are correct this is common technique used in Lake P.
