Default 2 good days

One Eye Ed asked me to deck for him this weekend so off I went. The first day we had 6 with us and headed out in the early morning fog. We had gotten word of some fish close by so we started there. As we pulled up another boat was there and he had 2 rods bent over. Good sign. Another boat comes in after we set up and he hooks up also. I am getting frustrated watching this happen right in front of us. To add insult to injury it takes time to get the guys into the program. We do not hook the fish and then hand the customer the pole. We tell them how it is done and it is up to them to see how well they listen and learn. If we loose one in the begining it is part of the learning curve.

Once we got going the backfin were being good to us.

In the course of the morning we found a nice yellowfin.

About 11:30 the bite shut off. We were still marking the fish but not even a sniff for an hour or more. Just a shark. As the drift changed the bite returned and it was game on. More blackfin and another nice yellowfin.

With the box full we headed in. On the way in we hit a wreck in state waters looking for red snapper and decided not to stay there because the box was already full and the bite was slow. With 2 yellows, (53 and 59 pounds) 18 blacks, 1 red snapper, and 1 vermillion snapper we had a very good day overall.

On the second day we met our customers and were surprised because one of them, the father, was blind. We were not told ahead of time and found out that morning. We instantly were all in the same condition as the fog was very thick. With only a few yards visibility we headed down the river and out the passes on electronics. We had a little break then it all went grey again.

We started getting some blacks and as luck would have it dad is up when the first yellow hits. He fought it alone and landed it.

He wore the mark of his first yellowfin.

The day went well even though there was a few bumps in the road to get over. Some of the sharks needed lunch also.

Once again we had a full box with 5 yellows, 6 blacks, 1 mangrove, and 1 red snapper. That wreck is not giving up snapper as we had hoped. Very slow pick there.

On the way out of the marina the road was flooded again. It is fresh mississippi river water we are driveing through. This is in the truck not the boat. They are raising the road but not soon enough for us.

Those are not road signs. We call them channel markers.

The river is rising and they are not fixing the dam across from the entrance to Venice marina. Things will only get worse from here on out.
