PGA Championship this year is also on a links style course at Whistling Straights.

Personally I liked Chambers Bay but the greens weren't good enough to hold the Open. Maybe the course is still too young. I'd love to play it $299 green fee

On the same hand though, it is not supposed to detract from the game. The course conditions were terrible, and the layout was not that of a major. Some of the greens look as though they were inspired by PuttPutt because the ball would funnel to the cup.

I understand they are in a drought up there, but watching that tournament would not inspire me to want to play there.

A golf course is a willful and deliberate misuse of a perfectly good rifle range.

Haha, hard to disagree there. I like golf, but I could think of a lot more purposes that those areas could be used for other than smacking a little white ball around.

Dropping stink bait for big nasties is a willful and deliberate misuse of a perfectly good fishing area. Lol. Had to do it

Biggest bass I have ever caught was on a golf course!

That being said, I love the game. I even played professionally for 2 years on the minor circuit. My take on the golf course is....all of these guys that complain wouldn't have if they won the title. If your job is that disheartening, go flip a burger at a local muni. I truly believe the guys that complain have lost their true passion for the sport.

It was not unfair due to the fact that everyone played the same course! The US Open should be the toughest track they play all year. I am fine watching these pros get beat up every now and then. Shooting 20 under for the week gets boring to watch after a while.

As far as FOX, they have some work to do. I agree that they were put on the main stage first out the box. I also agree that the course was not TV friendly. Personaly, I liked the scenery. It was tough to watch and follow the ball, but scenery was great.

Now my take on Tiger, because everyone is searching for the answer. LOL

Check this video on how the mind works, it is really fascinating. Now, plug in Tiger hitting hundreds of thousands of balls and having to rewire his swing due to injury and physical ailments.

I don't recall anyone really saying it was unfair, but I could be mistaken. I just recall guys saying that it wasn't in good shape, and wasn't fit for a major. I tend to agree. When you think of the majors, St. Andrews and Augusta come to mind. Not easy courses, but it's because they are designed to be that way. Not only was the course poorly designed, but it just didn't look very good at all. Quite frankly, it was eyesore. And the greens were child's play. If they were unfair, it was due to the greens being so forgiving if you made a bad shot. Like I said before, I watched one guy hit a terrible shot; the ball hit 30 or 40 feet from the cup. But because it was shaped like a funnel, the ball rolled to within 5 feet. Still not a gimmee, but it's a heck of a lot easier than a 40 footer.

All that said, I'm not a professional golfer. But from a fan's perspective and someone who has played a round of golf a time or two or 4, it didn't strike me as something worthy of a major.

BTW, I thought the pacific northwest was supposed to be like a rainforest. That seems about right that the first time they would go to the Pacific Northwest for a major that the region would be in a drought.

Bottom line all the players played with the same conditions, and the winner was the 2nd rank player in the world. The course did its job just fine, bumpy greens on the west coast are the norm over there with the type grass used.

I'm in... We don't have any great courses here in Lake Charles but we have some decent ones. I'd be willing to travel to somewhere better. I've been itching to play The Bluffs and Carter Plantation.

you are mistaken, the greens were not "FAIR" , any place that you can read the greens perfectly, have perfect pace, but not make the putt or even hit the lip is unfair. The ball jumped, kicked left/right, amongst other things. I loved allllll the slopes and the setup but the greens were a joke.

One announcer said "this would be there last area of the US i would choose for Poa Annua greens"

I think The National is the best value for courses in this area... My favorite to play is Koasati Pines at Coushatta. I really like the layout there.
