Default Turners Bay 12-23-11

Got to Cal. Point about 10 am and went to Turners. Quite a few boats there already. Wind was kickin. Ended the day with 14 trout, 1 flounder and a 30lb red. My buddy had just netted a trout for me with one hand, put the net down, picked up his road and BAM! This monster red hits his bait right by a crab trap. We were drifting with the wind and the red went the other way and almost spooled him. Took 10 minutes to land and after pictures we let her go.
Not sure if I was doing the wrong thing in the right spot or not. Felt like we should have caught more than we did although I am thankful for what we did catch. I did not try the ship channel and maybe should have. Any thoughts?

W, I was throwing Salt Water Assasin Sea Shads in Pearl/Chart mostly. Tried some Chart/Silver and Black/Chart tail. Caught most on 1/4 oz. head but I did try the 1/8 oz. head after reading your post on water temperature. I tried a suspending Rapala walk the dog type bait as well. It would work under the water like a Corky.

Next time try glow or avacado green a salty grub. Don't let the small size fool you. I have caught a few 5 pounders on it. Great bait this time of the year.

Hey Todd,
I am on a Floater about 150 miles in the Gulf right now. I am here to tell you that is a nice mess of fish you have there. You know what people tell me in the winter time in Big Lake you Stay south of a line that runs from Commesary point to Texaco cut. I find this to be fairly true. That was a good mess of fish you caught in Vermillion Bay a while back. Don't you find that the fish in V Bay on average are some what bigger than Big Lake. It has been this way for a few years. They just happen to have more wader that really catch the big fish that go to Big Lake.
Gotta go
Merry Christmas

Use 1/8 oz jig head only until March..... Cloudy skys clear water stay away from glow or pearl.... Use dark colors.. We caught every fish on LSU Jerk jrs....

Fish em slow and let the hit you....they might hit your bait soft...
