Default Ship Shoal Snapper

Had the camp down in Dularge for the weekend, so got a crew together and made what will probably be my last snapper run of the year. We had a awesome weekend, the drinks were cold, the boiled crabs at Jug's were incredible, and the friends were even better.

The fishing was "good", but not as great as I was hoping for. We had been having "blue" water at about 20-25 miles out, but we never found it this Saturday in my boat. We fished the Ship Shoal 219/204/227 blocks and ended up 47 miles south of Bayou Calliou. The water seemed to be river water on the surface and probably came in on the stiff north/northwest winds we have been having. The snapper were pretty, but we were not able to get on any mangroves which was disappointing. I tried all kinds of tricks to get them turned on, but it just wasn't meant to be. (I even broke out the canned corn!)

While we were offshore fishing, we had a huge beef roast that had been stuffed and marinated cooking on 200 outside the camp w/ veggies. Man after we cleaned up and got the cocktails going, it sure was good!!!!! Something about being on the water all day, then having a good rice and gravy meal that night. We finished supper and watched the LSU game, then slept like some babies!!!!!! My neighbor down there and his two buddies ran his 31' Contender 80 miles out (30 miles past me) and reported the "blue" water was 55 miles past Coon Point. They ran all day and did not get in to the boat shed until 6PM, catching 6 snapper and one 50 pound HOO.

Ended up going out of Dularge Saturday also went to El 212. Caught our snapper there and one mangrove. Hit SS154 or 155 on the way in and ended having to chum on the down current side. I know sounds funny but only thing that worked. Caught 10 mangroves which 9 were over 8 lbs. Biggest I have ever caught.

Poor thing, she looked miserable all day with them "restrained". I kept telling her that she needed to "Let them Breath" and I think she was game!!

"Let Em Breath" is the name of my buddies boat - when a chick ask him what it means and he tells them, they always flash him.......Smart fella!!!
