Default Bad trips can be posted too!

Just got home last night from my 3rd trip to my lease in south Texas. For the most part it sucked.

Left Thursday morning with my wife and 2 boys. Meeting my hunting buddy and his 2 boys at the ranch.
Thursday on the way 1 of his kids starts throwing up. Stomach bug. which he spread to his dad later in the trip. The 20 minute drive on the dirt road to the camp is a mud hole, turns into a 35 drive in 4wd . We get there and have to put all the kids in the campers because its raining. Young kids on a 8 hour drive don't like going hang out in a camper btw.

Rains all day Thursday and Friday, the whole camping area starts looking like a feed lot and its in the 40's. Deer are not moving much but we stay in the blinds twice as long as normal because its either there or the campers. Saw 2 10 points but both not old or big enough.

Rain stops Friday night and by Saturday at noon its drying up somewhat. The hunting is still slow and gets worse. Saturday the 2 youngest got bucks. After that we didn't see a deer. I made (2) 5 hour hunts and didn't see a deer on either. That never happens.

The Good. We have a camper rule. Kids can only shoot 8 points or below. My buddies kid got the 8 of a lifetime. And my 8 year old got his first buck.

How is that a bad trip?

That's realistic on 95% of the deer hunts I've been on, sit in the stand 14 hours a weekend and don't see anything.

Nice bucks them kids shot

bad trip as in 40-50 degree weather and raining. My wife was thrilled with the cold mud. Also it was really slow as far as South Texas goes. We usually see more quality deer. The big 8 from this trip was a bruiser. It needed to be killed and kid got lucky he was in the right place at the right time.

The second group of pics is from Christmas
