I would think whatever the coastal zone was last year it will be the same this year. The dates should be out in a few weeks. I think they decide on them in August usually

I would say for west zone it will close from DEC 2 to the 16....
Normally in a 60 day season if you good back and look the 1st split is 23 days and 2nd is 37 days.....this based with west zone opening on nov 9th which I think it will since the 16th is pretty late for the west zone to open. |

If it follows the pattern of last year, the coastal zone split would be Dec 2- Dec 13.
The split weekend would be Dec 7,8. |

These are the proposed dates that the biologist gave us during a business meeting at the DU state convention. The biologist said he will be suggesting an early season this year at the August meeting. |

I would be for the season starting a week later. Always do better later in the season. Also, my cousin gets married Nov 9th in NOLA so that would be great if it didn't fall on opening day of duck season!

I agree with you. We get more consistent fronts in December. I think that has alot to do with it. The Biologist is basing his suggestion on past harvest numbers. He broke down week by week the number of birds killed, and decided that we had better hunting during the first few weeks of this season. I believed this a very biased approach though. We kill more birds those first few weeks because #1 the birds aren't educated yet. Also you have alot more people itching to get out and there to hunt and the number of people in the field slowly starts to slack off. His own numbers that he showed us right before proved that.

Just for the random mail portion of the survey. They also did an Internet survey and another method which I can't remember. It showed the average all the way at the end of the screen which I couldn't catch. But the numbers were pretty close across the board. The majority of people are in favor of a late start and 14 day split. I would prefer the late start and 7 day split though. No matter how smart you hunt that last week is hard hunting. Those birds have seen it all by then.

Where is the other part of this picture? What is to the right of this? There was also an internet survey, which I would think would be listed just to the right of that next to the list under Mail Out Survey Nevermind, you answered that as I was typing, thanks |

Last year for us, best hunts I had all season were the last 2 weeks of the season.

I wish it would start the first weekend of nov. but I'm fine with the traditional dates. I wouldn't want it any later than the second weekend
