We still do good for teal. All that pressure for big duck drives the birds out of the area. It's not just them though way too many people hunting the area.

That is around the house / refuge where all those geese hang out..

Exactly, where those geese hang out are about a 1/2 mile to the north of us. It's my understanding that property is no longer a refuge though.

I think that is correct but I never see anyone hunting it.

They still stay thick in there for sure. My dad just picked up some property adjacent to there. I think we should well there.

I used to hunt the blind on 699 past Leroy. Used to smack teal. My grandpaw used to hunt adjacent to the old refuge. They called it the airstrip. Seth abshire used to farm it. My grandparents used to own Cajun seafood on verot and he would supply them with crawfish and let my gpaw hunt there in the back. Used to do very well as a kid on big ducks. Now, well a few yrs ago when I hunted it before Seth lost it. We killed teal but no big ducks to speak of. Geese were really good in second split. Had to put 200 decoys out everyday though and hunt levy

A guy I worked with owns that refuge. That little house is his grandmothers house. She passed away a few years ago. They are putting it back into a refuge. It works on 7 year cycles. Should be back this year or next.

I can't decide whether that is a good thing or not. It's sometimes hard to pull birds off once they started piling up in that field. They can see that big flock for miles.

Wether it's a refuge or not there is a sign at the road in front the house that says "NO HUNTING SO DON'T ASK"..
My grandparents live off of W. Liberty Farm Rd and we do okay for teal.. Nobody farms that much around us anymore so we get the birds that's already shot at.. |

I think those refuges are a great thing. At the minimum they keep birds in the area. If we didn't have the refuge the birds would be shot out of the area and the hunting would be even more sporadic than it is. The guy that set up the Vincent refuge is working on setting some more up and I can't see that as a bad thing as much pressure as their is. |

That blind I had was about a half mile south from the refuge and they would fly over us all morning just out of range and pile in that refuge every morning.

YEP, when for example if you have 100-200 decoys it is very hard to compete with several hundred or thousand REAL BIRDS....
Unless you know how to BOUNCE DA HEN..... |
