I spent $25 shipping the thing back to castaway and was assured that they would replace it. Well I get a call this morning, Hello Mr. Warren this is ... with castaway. The way your rod broke isn't covered under warranty, but we can sell you a new one at half price if you would like to do that. So I ask how much and she says it retails for $269 so they will sell it to me for $135 plus the $25 for shipping, so $160. (Well I only pay $175 normally from Chag's.) So, rather than stir up the stink and try to argue I said fine and told them to ship the new rod. Well then about 45 minutes later I started thinking about it and said heck, Billy can probably take my parts(reel seat and titanium guides) from the broken one and build me a nice stick with them(I love the feel of the skeleton rod). So I call back and leave her a msg asking politely to send back my broken rod with the new order.

About 30 minutes later she calls back and says they can't do that because of the warranty. I said what warranty, I'm buying a new rod. Yall aren't warrantying anything. She said well we can't do that because we are sending you a new rod and you could keep sending back the broken one and getting a new rod. ???What??? Yall aren't warrantying it this time, why would I send it back in and yall warranty it that time. At this point she says well we are giving you a rod at half price. I said I can buy it from the guy I get it from all day for $175, so all your saving me is $15 and a trip to new orleans. Soo why can't you just give me my old rod back and I'll buy a new one.

Well sir we can't do that it's our warranty policy. So I said well can I just get my other rod back? She says no, all we can do is sell you a new one at half price. I said so I can't even get the other one back. She says well yea if you want it but we can't sell you one if you do and you'll have to pay the shipping back.

So I said, well just do that I'll get one from my dealer cuz I can get it for almost the same price.
Sounds like they were giving you a good deal on a heck of a rod. Are you sure that you are comparing the exact same rod from Castaway to the one sold by the retailer you mentioned? Castaway sells numerous variations of the Skeleton rod with prices ranging from around $150 - $400. The Skeleton is one of the finest rods around.

yea, the castaway skeleton titanium heavy worm rod they offering me for 160, I buy them from Chag's in metarie for 199 regular and on sale at 175. And I'm positive that we comparing apples to apples. It is a great deal if you buying the rod for 270 before tax regular, but when the guy sells them for a decent price regularly, its really not that good of a deal for me

I'm currently working on a new design of comfort grip so, I'm having to redesign the reel seat while I'm there. The reel seat and grip will be made of inconel or hastelloy, your pick!

if chags can make money on them selling them that cheap, I quess castaway is making more money on a bogus warranty 1/2 price discount, what would piss me off is that there making there money regardless of a warranty or not instead of replacing a defective rod at no cost to you except shipping.

exactly and thats why I cancelled the order. because its a bogus half off deal when they still making money and don't even have the decency to send me the broken rod back that they not warrantying anyway. if they would have just sent me back the broken on then we wouldn't have so much of a problem. but they won't because they gonna sell me a rod at $160 then take the $100 dollar titanium guides off the broken one and put em on a new rod and then they not out nothing. that turns out to me basically paying $260 for the replacement rod.

I talked with Billy earlier and he's gonna fix me up with a custom. and told me that the titanium guides retail for $100
