If your Alweld 16X48 is the VEE LA model then we have the same hull. Not sure but a guess for a stripped down hull weight would be 450 to 550 lbs. |

You're talking serious cash with cpu work and bigger injectors. If you want to hop up a motor a tldi isn't for you. Get a merc 40 or a tohatsu with carbs on it. The days of hopping up new outboards is pretty much over. Buy a new motor, put a tach on it and prop it right and work on the setup. The fuel efficiency a new motor gets should make up for not being able to hop it up. |

different animal, you can change carbs, reeds and exhaust work and get more power pretty easy. I work with a guy that has same motor as yours on a 1648 rebuilt that runs 47ish, the motors we are talkin bout are the new fuel injected TLDI motors.

Old thread I found in a google search engine i want to revive.
I've got a 2010 Tohatsu 50 hp TLDI short shaft tiller handle on a 2011 15x52 alweld Vee La model. Stock aluminum 11.1x14 aluminum prop on GPS is 39.1 mph. I'm bringing this thread back to life because i want to know can i yank this restrictor plate out my intake and get more ponies out of my 50 motor? I have tried shining in with a light but like how far into the throttle body does this plate/cone go? is this plate in there loosely once you remove the screen? Can anyone post a picture what this cone looks like once it is removed?? I plan on this summer getting a better prop, someone I know has a few that will let me try out before i buy. I'd really like to see 50mph but not sure it is possible. There is a guy on youtube and boat racing facts that claims he took a 14ft weldbilt with the 50 TLDI and got it to run 63mph with a low water pickup and a clever 12x23.5 prop I think it was if anyone want to know really how fast these motors are. Thanks Chris |

This is by-far one of my favorite threads. It gave me some really good laughs and still is.

You're saying the carbed 40 tohatsu can be hopped up to make more power than a carbed 40 mercury? |

What do you honestly think the 40 2 stroke merc will produce Max horsepower after you do the 60 carbs and all?

Both are fine motors, but the mercury has more potential. |
