My wife has some friends bringing Kayaks down to look around. Where is a good spot to send them?>

Just to look around? I would say maybe the west fork on a weekday def not weekend. Where I went was nice and I loved the scenery but theN again I love seeing different stages of marsh development. That area is relatively young. Lots of Cypres around And not a lot of typical salt marsh vegatation

We have a friend who lives at the Barrier, big house boat on the water. I took them there and the winds were kicking too high for kayaking. They are thinking about going farther up the Calcasieu River close to Berry Bay. We have more friends who live there too, big blue and white houseboat at the dock.
Everywhere I looked today, the winds were blowing too hard. My wife won't go up the West Fork on a weekend. She doesn't like all the boat traffic while in a kayak. I cannot think of any marsh area where it would be easy for a bunch of women to launch and pick up. |

its not a bad paddle if you go up the road from your friends camp at the barrier, and just cross the channel and your in a good wide open marsh

We went up to the Berry Bay area and let them paddle up there.
We saw some aluminum boats on the south side of the barrier have some trouble with the winds. |

Fool, keep 1 or 2 of those big reds, I'll give you a couple of recipes that'll make you forget you're eating big fish.

Ray.....if they just want to get out on the water, maybe they could put in up at Holbrook park. Don't think there would be much boat trafic up there.
The might catch a Bass or 2???? Or....Go to the old ferry landing on the North side of Ferry Landing road (?), I think that is the correct name. From there follow the bank to the left for about 300 yards and go into the ditch to the left. It winds it's way through the woods and comes back out to the river. Very protected from any winds and could catch a few fish. |

They were not fishing, just kayaking. They are from Vidalia and came down to visit and look at the water around here. They hit L'auberge tonight and one won $500, one won $90, another won $72 and I won $290.
They are at Walmart right now getting a saltwater license. Tomorrow I am taking them crabbing on the road ditch to Rutherfords Beach and I am going surf fishing. Hope the winds die down. P.S., I am not originally from here. I don't know where Holbrook Park is. |

For future reference........The Holbrook park is just off Holbrook park road which is about 10 miles North of Suphur. The park is on the upper part of West Fork.
http://terraserver-usa.com/image.asp...589&Y=4196&W=1 You can drive there from Moss Bluff or come from Sulphur area. |
