The kids came in from Kentucky for a few days. The first day the pool had priority while one boat sat in the driveway and the other sat in the shed.



The second day after breakfast, and all the other things they do, we headed out on the water. It was 10:30 and the sky was threatening. Faron and I took Kyra 7 and Brooke 4 not far from the marina. The girls caught 1 rat red and a few hardheads and lost interest. The wind picked up and it was starting to sprinkle. I kept ahead of the heavy moisture and we had them back home less than an hour from the time we left the house.



Late in the day Faron and I hit the water again for an hour or 2. This time we went to a place I had not been to in over a month. With the river up I was hoping to find good water and fish there. Once there it was not as good as I was looking for but still fishable. We were using dead shrimp on the bottom looking for redfish or black drum. Faron gets the first keeper. A nice 15 inch speck. We did not have time to go to many other places so we just worked that area and found a few black drum and one keeper redfish before we headed back home.

Yesterday was their last day and the kids hit the pool so Faron and I went back to finish where we left off. On our first stop we put 2 nice trout and a beautiful redfish in the boat.



This not being a regular trip we did not stay there. I went to some islands and cuts about 8 to 10 miles away. Once there the water was beautiful but the fish were not to be found. Looks like they have not moved in here yet. After spending a good amount of time here we went back to where we started and settled in for the rest of the daylight we had left.

I found a cluster of bait hitting the water. I used the trolling motor to get into the area and put the power pole down. We let the trout swim to us. We released some and put some in the box. Every now and then we would get a big sail cat in the mix. Things were relaxing until a fish hits my cork. I twitch the bait hard and my line takes off for Florida. I already have the drag heavy just for bull reds so there was no need to adjust further. My reels hold a lot of line. I did raise the power pole so the fish could drag the boat. After what seemed like a long time I was gaining on the fish so I put the pole back down so we would not go far from our area. Faron netted the fish and not knowing any better attempted to lift the fish. The net broke! The fish did not get away though.




After the picture the fish went back in and we went back to our trout fishing.



Faron had a battle with one of our local bull reds soon after that. It showed that Kentucky country boy what a southern bull fight is like. We took home almost a dozen trout and one red for the dinner table.



Snowball was waiting for me to clean the catch.




My trip for today was canceled due to weather but they lost a good day. Storms never hit here.

Life is Good!
Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.
