Default Memorial Day Bash

Today I had Rhett Sloan from Cardno Environmental along with his buddies Ben Hall and Kevin O'Gorman. We got an early start from Jug's made a dash to the trout hole. With very little tide this morning I knew we would have a short window of opportunity to catch the major feeding period at daylight. Like clockwork we found birds and shrimp working all around the area. Within a few casts we honed in on a school of solid speckled trout coming in the boat two at a time on double rigs. There was some trouble with gafftops and spanish mackeral which caused a lot of foul ups to our tackle but I was working as fast as I could to keep the guys catching trout. When the smoke cleared we had 50 fat trout on ice but the tide went dead and the bite shut down. I knew there wouldn't be anymore tide movement as it was neap tide, but we stayed put for another hour hoping the bite would return. When it didn't, we hauled tail to the bull red hole. The first bait out got smoked by a big black drum and the second caught a big bull red. After that it was crickets. So we moved to another hole and we got on a good run of big blacks and reds. It was the first time for the boys catching these big bulls in Dularge and they got a kick out of it. We ran out of crab at 12:00 and took it to the house.
