Default I-pilot thoughts?

I need a new trolling motor and have read good things about the I pilot. Just a little concerned about the learning curve with the remote. Currently when trolling I just use my knee to bump and change direction when fishing a bank or reef. Rarely is this in a straight line - seems like it would be a pain to be fumbling with a remote instead of what I was previously doing with no hands. I know the anchor lock would be a nice feature.

It is sometimes a slight inconvenience for the remote but overall ipilot is the bomb. Would def recommend it

Ipilot is the best accessory Ive ever put on my boat. It makes using the tm on a windy day 10000xs easier. Anchor feature is awesome too. I just hang the remote from my belt loop on the side of the hand I reel with

I fished with somebody that had one. It was real easy to get used to and I love it. And as far as thinking it would be awkward with the remote it isn't at all. And something else that's good is that you can be anywhere in the boat and control it.

If you fish alot of open water you will love it. I find a hand controlled is easier to operate in tight quarters like trolling around trees or broken shorelines. Both have their ups and downs.

You pair that ipilot with a remote power pole and you're nothing short of a Greek god.

Fishing from anywhere in the boat that is most convenient and having the ability to maneuver without breaking stride is pretty awesome. I fished a month out of a boat with an ipilot, and the boat I just bought doesn't have it, so now I have these weird nightmares of working a trolling motor by hand in the wind while fishing - I never make it out alive.

You can record that path along the bank, zig zag fig 8 what ever. 2 miles long....Ipilot will follow that same trail back to the beginning on its own no touching the remote...just fishing.

Mine deployed while running about 25 in some pretty bad chop. Broke every piece inside the mounting mechanism. And there are a bunch of them.

I fished in 2 boats with them and I loved them. The only issue I had was that when under a rig the spot lock kind of freaked out. I'm guessing it was some satellite interference. Once out from under the rig it held perfect in a ripping current and stiff wind.

Very pleased with mine. The dealer who installed it emphasized three times to always slide down the locking collar when stowing it before getting underway to prevent self deployment in a chop.

Very pleased with mine also , but noticed sometimes the lock is not in a position to fully engage it in the groove , anyone else have this problem or am I doing something wrong?

It only took about two trips to get used to it. Don't want to go back.

I ran the remote from back of the boat a few weeks ago some family members get a chance at the fish from front of the boat. For the most part I didn't have any trouble at all working the banks and letting them get first chance at the flounder we were catching.

From what I remember when I was researching mine, the black freshwater Terrova has the option for a foot pedal in addition to the remote. I faintly recall a similar option for the riptide.

You can get the foot control for the ipilot riptide.

I looked it up and seems you either get spot lock or foot pedal. Would be sweet to have both or at least the option. I could be wrong tho.

I have both for mine and it saved my butt twice. Once when the remote battery died and this past Saturday when the remote was left at the house in my wife's car. Don't ask how that happened.
