Default Just wanted to say hello

Hey folks I moved to Louisiana several months ago and wanted to join the hunting/fishing form. I'm a long time member of 2coolfishing and Texas hunting forum so I thought I'd join here and say hello. I'm an older guy so most of my big adventures are behind me but I'm not ready to hang up my hunting boots just yet. As you can tell by my name I'm an Elkhunter at heart. I used to live in far West Texas and I hunted elk every fall in mostly New Mexico and Colorado but the mountain hunting is a little to tough for me so for the last few years I've hunted mostly WT deer and Exotics in the Texas hill country and some in South Texas. I've spent many hours in blinds and on foot the last several years shooting all things wild and free ranging with a camera. I'll post a few photos from time to time. I've got to run but just wanted to say hello. Taker Care, R.B.Baker

Welcome. I think I've seen you on 2cool. I'm from Houston area, got moved to Louisiana because of military assignment. I've shot a few exotics. We got off our lease in Uvalde so my exotic days are on pause for now. Hope I can get me a deer this year in the national forest.

Uvalde is where I moved here from. I've got a daughter in Baton Rouge so I took a transfer out here for a few years till I can retire. I've got some real good Axis photos from living in Uvalde. I'll try and post some up tomorrow. Take Care, Baker

I'll post a few Axis deer photos. I was able to take these photos close to my old home near Uvalde ,Texas. These deer have been in Texas since the 1950's and the free ranging population is estimated at over 35,000 head. In many places the Axis deer are out competing the native Whitetail's for available forage and are treated as an invasive species by the Texas Parks and Wildlife. Beautiful animals and the meat from an axis is amazing! The second to last photo is of the buck I was able to shoot. My wife took the photo from about 200 yards away. I was able to get close enough for a good shot because he was locked down with the doe in the pic. The buck weighed 246lbs. Baker

275lb Axis, 280lb Aoudad. Both taken from a cliff at about a 250 yard shot. Both on the same weekend. Camp Wood, TX.

Edit: somehow they're turned sideways? I don't know how to fix

I hunt exotic animals on a place in Uvalde county and the WT photos you see are from the ****tum a ranch in Maverick County. The ****tum is a beautiful l/f ranch with as many great bucks as you will see anywhere in the country! Are you hunting near La Pryor?
