Homemade pit blind?

There was a post earlier this year about using 1/2 plastic drums to build a pit blind. Can anyone lead me to it?

I was just about to start a thread myself Scubalatt. Please post of pics of finished blinds before they are brushed if you got any. I am about to sink one myself and looking for ideas on construction. I searched threads, but found nothing.

I use ober pack drums instead of the standard 55Gal drums they have more room and thery have a lid that screws on to keep the rain and unwanted vistors out. I'll see if I have some pictures on my phone of the last blind we put in.

used trash cans with the lids also work well. the square ones. plus they have a lip on the inside to put a 2x6 to sit on

I don't have any pictures of just the drums after we sunk them in the marsh but this is how it looked in the second split last hunting season. There are three over pack drums.

If your sinking 1 man blinds the overpack drums are the way to go. The screw on lid is very convenient and cheaper than fiberglass blinds. I believe the cost is around 160 per drum with lid.

I would limit the capacity to 3 hunters for a multi person blind if you plan to bring kids. (I like the 3 man blinds HRG uses)

We have 4 different blinds that hold 3 hunters. That are all over packs. The thing I like about them compared to the fiberglass pits is they aren't so hard to conceal from the air. IMO the fiber glass pits are just to open from the top

And that has been the negative on fiberglass. We add 8" coming off the top of hog wire pulled in at a 45* angle all around the blind. We also add a 2x6 between each hunter covered in fast grass. Works great.

Yea that's a good idea to close them up. I just find it's a lot of extra work when you can just brush them up thick and not have to worry about adding all the extras.
