Ask here in Louisiana and you would probably get a yes. Go to Florida and they would say hell no! I think if you take two fishermen who have found fish and one is catching them on artificial and the other is using live bait the one on arti is more talented in my opinion. Fishing with the natural bait should be an advantage.

Still gotta set the hook & keep em on the hook.....
Live bait don't get em in the boat any easier..... Just draws a strike with less work... |

IMO yes people who fish artificial are more talented. You have to put the puzzle together like color, water column ,speed of retrieve, and have a feel for that strike. I think you have to put way more work to become good with artificial.

I have been told if your not wading & if you fish from a boat, you need to fish dead shrimp, so wade fishing with artifical takes talent.

X2. I limited this morning by 9:00 and almost all of my fish were caught on topwater, just a handful on jigs. IMO, the "talent" aspect of an artificial lure fisherman has more to do with locating the fish and being able to present a piece of plastic in front of them and convincing them to eat it. If you just go out and throw live bait somewhere you are bound to eventually catch something. Yes it does take more "skill" to work an artificial lure and present it properly as opposed to chunking out a live shrimp on a popping cork and staring at it until it goes under. I probably caught twice as many fish as my buddy that fished with me today, and we both used the same topwater bait, the same rod, same reel, and same line. I think I just jiggled it a little better than him So maybe "talent" isn't the best word for this occasion, "skill" might be a better one. IMO it is more satisfying and more thrilling to catch fish on artificial anyway, and I don't bother with live bait at all. |

I will fish live bait if I have someone with me who does not really fish. My wife is one of them. This sat I'm gonna be soaking live bait bc my lil brother is flying in from nj and does not fish. Gotta do it. I just want him to catch a few fish.
