Thanks. What about power and tip? Any idea on which is good for my applications? I don't know how to choose which type as far as that goes?

To get a decent cast with 1/8 oz you will need a medium or medium light. Med heavy does not have a soft enough tip to cast light weights very good. The kistler klx is a awesome rod for the price. http://www.kistlerrods.com/store/fis...l#.UtwCndLnat8

I would go with a med-light fast action but i would go a little longer than 6'6" maybe 6'9" to 7'

I don't know what Jude's prices are but it can't hurt to talk to him. For trout/red mix the MHX MB782HM is a good blank (6' 6"). For primarily redfish the MHX SB812HM is perfect (6' 9"). With a spinning configuration and 6# mono my son and I cast 40+ yards (measured) with a 1/8 oz matrix shad leadhead and tail.

Contact jchief... He just built a rod for me and I hated to give it away to my BIL for Christmas lol. His prices are inline with your range too

Looking for a new rod
Why so short? For saltwater fishing I always use at least a 7' rod. It'll help get your cast further plus help when you have a bite on the end of a cast. Check out the allstar line, they have put some nice stuff on the market lately. I bet you can find exactly what you want for $130-150. Bucoo isn't a bad option either, I really like their medium action bait caster

Thanks guys for all the help. I typically use 7 to 7'9" rods but I am using this mainly for Reds and doinga lot of sight fishing in small ponds. My fishing partner likes the 6'6" for better accuracy but you do lose distance. Thanks guys again for help I am going to have to contact j chief and look at the other recommendations. I just wanted one that was really sensitive so I can feel the subtle bites that can come in colder months

I have a 6'6" TFO spinning rod from Pack and Paddle. I love it. 99 bucks. I use it just like you said, 1/8 jig heads, specks and reds.

I love the Ugly Sticks, I know they're not the expensive rods everyone is talking about, but after spending my retirement on gear (or so it seems), at the end of the day I like the feel of the ugly sticks.
I have all sizes from tuna sticks down to light actions. Good luck with your decision |

Tacklewarehouse has the Powell Diesel rods on sale for $55. The spinning rod is a 6'10" M. Good deal on a good rod, I'm really itching to pull the trigger on it, but baby #3 is slowing that down. That's what I use spinning rods for, 1/8 oz jigheads in saltwater and weightless plastics and 1/8 oz shakey heads in freshwater.
God bless Coach |
