Today started out dark and wet navigating the Dularge marsh long before the sun faded through the clouds of the approaching front. We were trying to beat the high winds and hoped to get on a hot trout bite before Mother Nature altered our conditions. Sprinkling rain set in as we sat in the darkness. I checked the radar and all looked clear and calm for 'Go Time'. Out of the darkness I heard the familiar splash swoosh splash associated with a solid headshaker. Just yards away, Capt. Marty was tossing one in the box. To my crew of 5, I gave the signal to start in on 'em. Slowly but surely we started picking away as the sky turned to gray. The bite wasn't hot and it wasn't easy. It was one of those difficult wintertime peck and tap - bite the tail - is that a bite or is that the bottom - types of bites. Brutal. But we slaved on and put together a decent fish box. As the conditions deteriorated, so did the bite. 25 mph winds, rain at daylight, and fishing during a front. 1/4 oz lead colored jig heads, 12 lb test Berkley Big Game, and the new High Life Tackle Anchovies in Natural Minnow did all the catchin'.
