7-6 & 7-7 2016 fishing north

Relentless winds , low tide and muddy water in my usual spots pushed me way north to pretty water and lots of small fish. Must of caught 40 reds! Lots of pickle trout as well. Managed to box limit of reds yesterday and a few trout. No live bait today made it slower and still kept a limit of reds. All small trout today. Fish are making there way up north just have not found the size yet.

I also can't even count how many reds I caught in Lake Charles this evening, most 14-16". Easily had a limit, but I don't like fooling with the small ones. Just kept a couple of the nicer slots.

How did the water look up there?

I'm new to this type fishing. when you say North are you meaning north Lake Calcasieu? Or really lake charles? didn't know you could catch reds that far north? Also where would you launch and send a newbee? Thanks for any advice.

I bet that Blimp top make mid day fishing tolerable.

I remember once fishing this time of the summer up by the ship channel in Turners bay. I put up an umbrella and took a brake to drink some cold water and have a sandwich. While sitting there, I picked up my pole and threw the plastic bait out a little ways. While drinking, I worked the bait very slowly along the bottom. After a second swallow, my line felt "heavy" so I picked up the rod tip and pulled in a nice trout. I repeated this to catch about 8 more trout...... all within 15 feet of the boat in 8 feet of water. The bite was very very light that time.

There was a report a couple weeks ago of a guy that caught some big Reds up in the Hwy 171 area on his trout lines.

Red fish can be plentiful up near the saltwater barrier when the water is not too fresh.

This was caught up there.

nice! are the reds moving north due to all the south winds = muddy water down south and "cleaner" but not necessarily as salty as down south?
I really like fishing prien area and north along channel when it gets real hot. That bottom fishing and feeling the subtle little bump is what its all about baw!

I would say the Red's [and trout] are just spreading out more due to better quality water [more salt and not as muddy] as it was a few weeks ago. And partly because more bait fish move farther north.

I catch redfish all year long in the Lake Charles area, regardless of salinity or water quality. I will say, I find it more enjoyable when I can see more than 2 inches into the water.

I was in some pretty shallow water yesterday (6"-2') but I had about 1' visibility.
