Just FYI- you could kill 2 birds with one stone here. Get an iPad. It's expensive, but then you have an iPad. Very cool toy when you aren't fishing.
THEN, download "marine charts" app. It's like 30 bucks, and a better chart plotter than most. Doesn't have sonar (obviously) but the gps is awesome and the interface is easy to use. You can actually overlay google earth on the NOAA charts. For what you would pay for a really good chart plotter, you can get the same function and have an iPad. Biggest downside is the mounting, but if you are a fan of coona$$ ingenuity, a lil epoxy and an iPad dock... Voila! |

You mean it will work without wifi access in your boat?

Yeah, get the 3G. Where I fish the oil industry provides the cell signal. I pay $25/month. The signal is stronger than in baton rouge.

Better yet; buy the gps adapter for the IPAD located here..
The problem I have is the ipad itself is almost impossible to see in sunlite, and even with a biminy, it is difficult. If it weren't for that, this outperforms any fish finder I've ever used. By the way, you can save the 3g. It works strictly off the GPS adapter. |

Are you looking for a reef chip for the reefs south of marsh island or just spots to fish close in vermillion bay area?
