On a $40,000 truck, the factory makes between $15-$20k. Dealer average profit on new vehicles is somewhere between $800-$1,000. Occasionally you will hit a home run and make a big money deal, but that is hard to do.

Believe it or not, sales to the Gov't (from towns to states and fed agencies) are the highest profit deals. That's all I'm saying about that, I'm waiting for 1 guy to retire, then I get all the gov't bid work. Then I'll be making bank.
i can promise you that CHRYSLER DOES NOT MAKE $15K-$20K on a $40k truck. who ever told you that was exaggerating, alot.

Chrysler also gives $10k+ off their MSRPs (as does Ford). If Chevy is only giving a difference of $1k - $3k between MSRP and dealer invoice, they've got to be making $15k+ per vehicle. Just one more reason not to buy another GM vehicle (you know, aside from the fact that their trucks aren't as good as Fords, they are subsidized by our tax dollars, and their vehicles are more expensive ).

i drove a dodge 1-ton and it was just "OK". the interior looked cheaply made and wasn't as "ergonomic" as chevy. i've had a ford 250 and put 300k miles on it. but at the end of the day, i like the chevy interior best, the duramax is a proven/sound engine and the allison tranny is good too.

the dodge cummins could probably pull the bumper of either ford or chevy. but i just don't have need to do that very often.

you touched on the basis of my question. i've been told that dealers will come $10-12k off of msrp, but if invoice is only $37.8k...not too sure. i expect the dealer to make $1-$1.5k on the deal. i just don't want to be the sucker who let them make $5k on the deal. i was hoping somebody else had bought a 2010 lately so i could find out what they paid.

Actually, the new '11 Ford (with the new 6.7L Ford-built diesel) is the highest in horsepower, torque, and towing capacity. I'm dying to test drive one.

Wow, I hadn't read about that yet. However, an extra 7hp at 200RPM higher translates to a draw. The Ford is still rated to tow more. And, unlike the Duramax, the Powerstroke will last beyond 100k miles.

I just sold one last week, it will be here in about 4 weeks. Drove a 6.7L Lariat 4x4 the other day. It was freaking fast, and quiet as a gas engine.

IT'S NOT A POWERSTROKE, it's FORD produced. meaning untested. no history. better watch out.

what is the warranty on the new ford diesel?

does FORD have an ALLISON transmition?

5 years or 100k miles on engine, 5 yr or 60k on power train.
