Rusty, rymadil is extremely hard on the liver if taken for prolonged periods of time. Get hips x-rayed and go from there, internet pharmacists are worth what ya pay for their information.

I have the same problem with my lab. He is almost 10. I have only hunted him 5 or 6 times this year. It's tough for him to get around the marsh. I just bring him to find the birds we can't find when one of my buddies with dogs can't go. He doesn't hear well either. Thanks for the info.

I agree, if taken for prolonged periods. It is still the best pain reliever, it will def. help. But like all pain meds, or non steroidal anti inflammatoriy, in moderation. It also comes in a generic. Dont remember the name. I think it is similar to tramadol.

Yes, not looking for a daily use because generally she gets around just fine. Just the day or next day after a hunt is when it is the worst. This time seems pretty bad, I just feel bad for her.

If that's a recent pic of her I would really consider pulling some weight off of her. You might be surprised what that will do just on its on.

She needs to look skinny to most people. When you look down at her she should have an hourglass shape. You should be able to see the last rib. She has kinda square figure. Not much waistline. |

she aint really that fat. She looks like she weighs more than she does. My lab is heavier and "fatter looking" than she is.

Those pics are all from this season. How exactly does one go about getting there dog to slim up? Hunting season is the only thing I have found to slim her up. Do they make a Jenny Craig for dogs?

It is as simple as less food. I have a lab that can only be fed a small amount or she gets overweight quick. They make foods that are for overweight dogs but, less food works fine. If a dog is overweight it is consuming too much food.

Whatever you can stand. Cut back over a week. That usually makes you not feel as guilty.

Lake chuck duck,
I do not have Rimadyl. I do have tramadol. Tramadol is only a pain killer and is a short term fix like all pain killers. Rimadyl is a super anti inflamatory. (My VET buddy just left and educated me.) Call if you need the doggie drug hook up. LOL 337-316-4193 |

You should feel guilty about making your dog healthier. I monitor my dogs weight constantly. Simple fact is te more they way the harder it is on their joints. How often are you working her during the off season? How much are u currently feeding? Very important to keep your dog in shape especially before the season starts. How would you like to go run 5 miles after you been on te couch for 8 months? It would be very hard, same thing you are asking her to do. It's not just about their weight, they need to be in shape. If it helps I feed eukanuba salmon and rice. I feed 3 Mardi gras throw cups a day during hunting and 2 1/2 during off season. I watch his weight very closey and adjust accordingly.
