Grand isle the deep water is closer.

We go in a deep V 19' mako and have been 40 miles out of grand isle amd have never found blue enough water for mahi mahi.

If you have a shallow nautic star I don't think I would bring it offshore for palegic fishing.

Maybe red snapper but then again you can cach red snapper 10-15 miles out of grand isle. I would think you need to be a minimum of 20 miles out of cameron for the same water depth.

Water deeper out of forchon.
Fourchon is prolly 7-8 miles further south than GI

I wouldn't try in that small a boat but if you are going to do it I believe going out of fourchon would be a lot better and closer. You would have to prolly go 50 plus miles out of Cameron and Gi

There is a good wreck about 25 miles out of fourchon that holds ling grouper and snapper but no Mahi. I would wait till you boat grew about 10'.

I remember you telling me that last year. I looked on a map and its obvois that Fourchon sticks out further.

This year we will definitely launch at Fourchon and give it a try.

that sounds very dangerous in that small boat. going out of cameron for mahi is a long run.

I got a 21' and I want to hit that wreck out of forchon to fly fish some cobia but I'm still hesitant all though I've seen plenty of 24' bay boats out there.

I don't really think it's a wreck I think it's one of the rigs to reefs deals.

Let's hook up and run out there together.

Having a buddy boat is the way to go and always makes me feel more confident.

I gotta get the humming bird installed with the 360 imaging. The I pilot is gonna be great over that thing. If you can anchor in 70' anchoring off the edge up current from it would be ideal and chum back too it. It's hard to get the groupers out if you right on top of it.

18 footer can catch you trout out of cameron is about all. Got to run a long ways south to get to deep enough water. Closest I have caught dolphin was about 20 miles and they were tiny.

I know it isn't the same when you aren't in YOUR OWN boat, but just get a charter out of Venice 1-2 times a year for your palegic fishing.

Those guys are set up and know how to put you on the fish.

In my opinion, it is more cost effective to just get a charter than to own a boat that size and all of the equipment it takes.
