Default Lowrance HDS owners

Just bought a HDS 5 and used it last weekend. Well the base map that comes with it is totally useless along the coast. What do you guys use for a background map? Also what software works best for use with my computer to create waypoints and routes etc?

I bought the Navionics also for my Elite 5 DSI. You are right though, for the price you pay for them, they should be loaded with a better base map.

What does navionics have that the stock map doesnt? The boat I'm buying has a HDS on it so I'm trying to see what needs to be done with it.

The base map is really old data. I fish in cocodrie a lot and everywhere in the bay shows I'm running over land that ain't there no more.
