Foxes- Concerns?
I have no chickens.....just a big Greenwing Macaw outside......my retriever, and that's about it. These are brazen enough to come up on the pool deck, literally 15 yards from the back of the house. should I be concerned? Should I take them out? we like seeing them......sure the rabbit population is going down. |

Don't think they pose a problem. Not sure about them and rabies though

Attack risk is basically zero with them. However, they are known to carry rabies.

Been watching 2 for a few years , got 3 now. Never been an issue . Fun to watch . And they can make sounds that do NOT sound what you would think would be a fox. Google eerie fox sounds and you will see what I mean.

Enjoy them while you can, they're becoming hard to find these days.

They might go after your bird. Hope you have it in strong cage.

When I live by Austin we had a family of foxes living nearby. It was fun to watch them play and chase mice through the grass. It didn’t last long. The neighbor had goats and bought some huge dog to keep the coyotes away. It got hold of one of those fox and shredded the poor thing. I guess the rest got the hint, because I never saw them again.

Wouldn't worry bout the rabbit population, they're hard to thin out. I heard their biggest threat is fireants.

Yeah, not particularly legal to shoot, but with a trappers license you can catch them if you really want them gone. On that note, it's easier said than done unless you have some experience with it. The only problems you could have is maybe they'll sniff around for that bird, but other than that they are just cool critters to have around.

There were a few of them living in a culvert across the street from my folk's place. I didn't get a chance to see them before they took off, but they would let people get relatively close. Here are a few pictures they took...
