Default compasses

Am I doing something wrong ? I Tried twice to stick a compass on my boat dash and it shows N towards me if I'm heading N. Seems like it's backwards.
Guys at academy were puzzled cause it showed same in the store.

That is the way it is supposed to work. The direction you read under the line is the direction your boat is heading.

Do you have any speakers mounted near the area you are mounting it? Does it change when you pick it up off the console?

a boat (heading) compass is a lil different than an orienting compass.
A boat compass shows you direction of travel , a compass you use in the woods
is used to find true north and you have to figure your direction of travel.

Sounds like ya have a compass with a protruding degree card which gives a stern reading of true north. I prefer a flat card in a marine bowl type compass that shows direction of the bow with north direction being shown on top of card.
