Rigolets and Pontchatrain? Good enough fishing?

When I was growing up in the 70's and 80's the fishing in the Rigolets and Lake Pontchatrain was consistently dissappointing. Maybe we weren't doing it right.

Is the fishing that way good enough to justify living in Livingston, Tangipahoa, or St. Tammany Parishes, or should we hold out for employment opportunities that would allow us to live in Lafourche, Terrebonne, Calcasieu, or Cameron?

fishing is very good in that area. once they stopped the shell dredging and the lake cleared fishing boomed.Also you will be an hour away from other areas that have great fishing ,both salt an fresh.

Living on "east side " of the state you can be at several great fishing location at no more than 2 hr drive or less.

We've got applications submitted all across the state, but aren't getting any bites in what were originally our preferred locations (Calcasieu, Terrebonne, Lafourche). Most of the jobs seem to be in the I-10 and I-12 corridors from BR and points east. Of course, NO is just off limits, I'll never live there again and I certainly won't raise my children in that pit. I've just been computing the driving distances from possible living spots in Livingston, Tangipahoa, and St. Tammany Parishes to the Causeway and Rigolets, and it ain't bad at all if the fishing is good. Three hours to GI though. Still closer than my current drive. Who knows, if things go well, maybe I'll get to meet some of you fellows the weekend of June 1 in GI.

Yep! but if your in Hammond you can be in those great spots in an hour to hour 1/2 or less!

Try like crazy to get yourself on I-10 instead of I-12. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to Terrebonne, Lafourche, Barataria, etc from Livingston parish. Just a lot easier drive from BR, Gonzales. Unless you're willing to do Ponchartrain/Rigolets.

if you drive down 55 from hammond its about the same as driving from baton rouge to Lafouurche, barataria, terrebonne etc. but your still closer to breton sound to venice and lake P.

That's true. Of course, New Orleans is the absolute best: 30 min to Lake or Lafitte, 45 min to Delacroix or Port Sulphur, hour and half to Cocodrie, Fourchon or Venice.

Look into living on the west bank of st charles parish. I can fish lake p, lafite, hopedale, delacroix, cocodrie in less than an hour or venice in 2 hours. Plus the atchafalaya delta in less than 2 if I want to fresh or even des allemandes in 30 minutes. Plus we are small town feel with no crime cause most houses are $250k +.

Yes, it would be a great place to live, but since we're unwilling to work in NO, job opportunities are slim.

Its only a 45 minute drive to baton rouge where my wife works. You can also look at Gonzales or prarieville which are about 20 east of baton rouge.

My girlfriend lives in Luling but I'm living in Kenner at the moment. I would not move to Kenner haha

We've done private school, public school, and home school in the past. We are home schooling now. We would evaluate the quality of the public and private school options carefully before deciding.

If you move to dutchtown ( between Baton Rouge and Gonzales ) you can send em to public and save some $$ also easy access to the chem plants

I'm a relocated Slidellian and am glad that I did. I lived in Slidell for about 20 years and moved to Lake Charles for college. Ended up landing a job and have been in LC since. Living and working, hunting and fishing and loving it. I wouldn't go back to the East side of the state unless there was a job opportunity that I couldn't pass up. In Slidell in the past 3 months there have been more heroin arrest than speeding tickets, place is a $h!t hole. I'm begging my sister to get my nieces and nephew out of there. Be very informed before you make your decision, even the great schools that I went to growing up are sub par these days. It's a shame bc the place was an amzing to place to grow up in, but things just haven't been the same since Katrina.

I'm renting an apartment at lakes of chateau south. Over priced but I need the garage.
