Best Rod/Reel Combo for $100?
Buy a Voltaeus Rod and any Shimano reel and get $20 back. I have a couple of these rigs and I like 'em. They seem to hold up. I got the Sedona 2500FD ($59.99) and the Voltaeus VTC66M 6'-6" Medium rod, 12# mono for trout and the 4000FD, VTC66MH 6'-6" Medium Heavy, 30# Suffix Braid for reds. The reels are $59.99 and the rods are $39.99 either way, take your pick. I looked at the Symetre reel for $40 more and the salesman agreed - it wasn't worth the extra cost. The rod's listed as a freshwater rod but all hardware is stainless. I've had a couple of these for about 6 months and with hosing down, wiping off, and a lil Real Magic, they're holding up great. Went yesterday, got another red rig, with Suffix rigged up and with the rebate the whole combo with the Suffix will be right at $100. If you want the rod, be careful and not grab the 2 piece model. At this price, you ain't gotta worry about ebay, cereal numbers or warranty. $100 every couple of years ain't too shabby. (I don't work for Bass Pro, Shimano, or have a connection - just my opinion) |

I like those sedonas! But......as far as the voltaeus its garbage, just my opinion my cousin bought one from academy for 20 bucks and that's bout all it was worth didn't last long and had a horrible action, whole rod wAs way to floppy I didn't like it. Not knocking you what so ever just sharing my experience with you.
Not a bad price though, awesome little reels I want one of the 3000 series |

No offense taken....
Just wonderin' ..what's a better combo for $100 or less. Or would you spend more money on the rod and less on the reel. I got more expensive combos - couple of curado's, some split grip and golf grip American Rodsmiths and a Teramar. But for part-timers, guests on the boat, whatever, what's a better combo for less than $100? |

Can't really say what's a better combo for that price, I will always spend more on my rod that's were your action comes from I have 2 cumaras with a citica and a Curado on them stiff with a nice limber tip
But just for guests there ain't nothing wrong with that combo sweet little reel, I have a Sonora on a Blair wiggins inshore slam rod on it, little heavy but awesome rod for 100 bucks |

shaw is right on target about the voltaeus rod being absolute junk. heavy and no sensitivity and a limited 1 yr warranty. i'd recommend the next one up, shimano's convergence series. they are $50 and $60 for a 6'6" or 7' and they have a great lifetime over-the counter warranty. they also happen to have a rebate going on with the convergence, clarus and compre rods. get $10 back when u buy a clarus or convergence and $20 back when u purchase a compre.
the reel is a solid choice. the sedona's are well balanced and worth every cent of their paltry $59 price and are arguably better than some more expensive reels. $49.99 rod - $10 rebate + $59.99 reel = nice $100 combo we have the shimano rebate certificates in stock at the tackle box in sulphur. IMO, the best best rod is the Hurricane Calico Jack CAJ-456
Shop around online and you can find them for $40 Couple that to a Mitchell Avocet II Gold and you're in for $80 |
