I live in Texas and grew up in Lake Charles. For the last few years, I've spent the week of Thanksgiving fishing at Big Lake. I normally go down this Friday or Saturday and stay until the Saturday after Thanksgiving at our lake house in Old Settlement. I generally have luck with redfish and flounder, but normally I don't do as well with trout. Looking at the 10 day wind and weather forecasts, starting this Saturday, it shows 20 - 25 mph north winds, rain this weekend and it doesn't look like it is going to get much better next week. I've used several guides mentioned on this website (and learned a lot), but I normally like to explore by myself this week to see what I can find new.
I can always go to the weirs (I assume they are open and running) and catch redfish (not my favorite activity, unless I bring a kid or new friend fishing) and I can try to go to my flounder spots off the channel. Not sure how the wind will effect my flounder fishing spots.
Would you still go? If so, how and where would you concentrate your fishing? Not looking for any honey holes, just friendly neighborly advice. If anyone wants to buddy fish or fish with me in my boat on Sunday or Monday, just send me a PM and I probably have a spot for you. My Texas buddies backed out after looking at the forecast. Thanks.
