Riceland Custom Calls

Any one have one of their speck calls? I just baught one and it constantly locks up! I'll be calling birds and all of the sudden it will hit one super high pitch note and then wont make a sound until i take it apart and dry it off a bit. But then sometimes it will blow flawlessly! I just dont get it. Could it just be that its new and the reed is stiff?

my duck call and a buddies does the same thing. I had to take mine to bill daniels to get it tuned up. moisture and cold dont do well with those calls. been blowing my duck call for 5 weeks now and it still locks up.

dont have any experience with the goose calls though. call em up... I would try bill before james. after 5 pm.

Mine has never locked up. My riceland duck call is a different story though, it sounds awesome but like your speck call it locks up constantly.

I'll try calling Bill...If they can't fix the problem I guess I'll try a chien caille.

Do you have the wood, acrylic, or poly???

Mine has done it before. Take the barrel out and put your fingernail behind the reed. lightly pull it away from the trough and let it go. It will make a plucking sound. Do it lightly though. If you do it too much it will mess up the sound. I'm not sure what causes them to do that

Polly...I blew the polly and the wood. I dont think they had any acrylics in stock where I baught it from.

Mine never did that ever. I have a poly with an acrylic gut. The acrylic gut is more stout I believe

Reed thickness which also the reason they are so easy to use, can't have it boof ways.

I think the moisture causes it. Mines done it as well and just McNabb said fixes it, a lot of time I think it's when dust gets in your call or sugar any kind of food or tobacco don't help

I just got a poly Riceland call for Christmas. Took it hunting Saturday in the rain and cold and it didn't stick but I didn't care for the sound. I was in a layout and it was difficult to use both hands to call, so I just switched back to my Chien. People claim the wood calls sound better but I don't know. I know I didn't personally care for the sound I was producing with it. But it didn't stick.

It was prolly that layout blind muffling the sound, have you tried calling out in the field, or with your top open?

Nope. That was the 1st time I had it hunting. It probably also has a lot to do with the person blowing into it.

Lol same here but the more you blow it the more confidence you'll get in it I love mine and its done well for me this year. I've never tried the Chene caille before I know they've been proven and been around for a long time so I don't think any one can knock'em

I did hear Ol Mervis shaved one down for a guy with one lung to blow. That's just what I heard. I do know that you can take your call to Mervis and Kendall and they will tune it to you.
