Default Boat insurance

Who has it and is it worth it? What does it cover? Theft? Accident? I know several people that's gone fishing or hunting, stop at store and get to launch only to realize their stuff got jacked back at the store. Also known a few to rip a hole in their hull and/or a lower unit or fry a power head because its plugged with grass or mud. Keep in mind my boat is nothing special. 1652 Express with a tiller 40. But on any given trip I probably have $1000 of gear in the boat. What's your thoughts or experience?

Its good for accidents and liability if you ask me. I got it just for the liability issue.

Liability coverage, theft,if the boat sinks because you hit something etc, mine even covers up to $500 dollars for a towtruck if my truck breaks to tow the truck to the nearest repair shop if I'm pulling the boat, they don't want that boat on the side of the road if your truck breaks.I only pay $250 a year for my boat Bay Stealth center console.

Sounds like I need to make a trip to state farm. Just piece of mind I guess. I have hit a couple submerged logs and wondered why it didn't rip the transom off.

I have a financed boat so I had no choice but to have insurance. I have a good relationship with my State Farm agent so I got a price from then and they are who I had my insurance with on my old boat. I shopped and ended up getting Progressive since they have better/more coverage for half the price.

The personal items is an add on coverage, basically insuring the cost of your gear. That will increase the premium beyond the basic coverage. It's best to use someone like charter lakes and stay away from auto insurance companies. Yes they can be less expensive, but if you make a claim the the process is easier.

ive had all my boats insured under progressive and had to use it on my bass boat after hitting something submerged and put a hole in the fiberglass. they was real quick and had no problems paying for it. didn't cost me a dime out of pocket, the total cost absorbed the deductible for me. and my premium never went up afterward either. I have my 2014 alweld with tohatsu 40 insured also with $4,000 in personal property and its only $30/month. id say its worth it.

its super cheap and worth every dime!! Recently tore up a hub on my boat, and they paid for the tow back to my house 1.5 hours away. Also we hit something one day and busted the lower unit, they paid for a brand new one.

Default boat insurance

wouldn't leave the house without it. In owning a boat for 40 years I have made only a couple of claims. One for a lower unit that locked up about 1975 and one for a couple of deep gouges on my Triton 2 years ago. The lower unit was $700 and the 2 spots on the bottom of Triton was $1500. I also have 5K electronics and gear. I try to put stuff away in rod box and remove my HB 998 when I just go in a store for 5 minutes. Leave it out and it's gone.

I have with Charter Lakes, used to have Progressive.

Have been on a boat that went down when in Guam, fishing for mackerel, around mid-night. My first question to my friend, "do you have insurance", you can guess the answer, was a new boat. WE recovered the boat but it was tore up bad, motor was totaled.... so was he LOL

Just got a quote from my state farm agent. $8000.00 boat/motor/trailer and $2000.00 gear $210/yr. Can't pass that up.
