Default Lake Charles Jobs

Just made a move over to Lake Charles two weeks ago. The wife has been looking for a job in the area for a couple of months with no success. She currently works for CCI Central Control as a community liaison / marketing and is commuting back to Lafayette daily. Her background is in marketing but I'm sure she is willing to consider other options. Just curious to see if anyone from SC knows anyone hiring in the Lake Charles area? Thanks in Advance!

Chris

Between the Kasina's and industry she should be in demand. Probably help if she could network here instead of driving back and forth to Laffy. Have her join some prof groups here in LC.

LC is a tough market to crack. My wife and I just did a hard 9 month push applying for lots of jobs in SW LA. We are highly qualified science and engineering types, but generated very little interest because our skills did not exactly align with current needs in the petroleum and chemical industries and we were not living sufficiently local to do the networking thing.

LC has not really outpaced the rest of the country or the state in job or population growth over the past 2, 5, 10, or 20 year intervals. Most jobs in communities with relatively stagnant job and population growth are filled by locals rather than out of towners, and usually longer term locals at that.

Just waiting on that sasol job to take off.. Better get ready for that sasol expansion...you get ready for that sasol expansion...I swear you'd thin think we were about to rebuild the whole town...LC and the surrounding areas are so unwilling to accept change...Lafayette is leaps and bounds ahead of this area...

Not really, lived there 22 yrs and that's what most see from the outside looking in. You were still in kindergarten back when it was a ghost town. The service companies are doing well now and money is flowing again but it could stop tomorrow. I see LC as a slow and steady economy that is poised to make consistent gains over the long haul. Our pace of life is much better here than Laffy and the competition socially isn't an issue with me or my kids like it was in Laffy. My kids are much happier here than Laffy so it has been good for us.

The couple jobs my wife has had since moving to LC in 2000 were pretty easy to find.
Not sure where she looked or how she found the connections to get the jobs.

i do agree with you and especially on the "clickish" deal in lafayette. But damn can we have some nice places to eat or maybe a nice bar etc where you don't have to be 18-23 yrs old...or have to fight trashy joe bob Toby....

Oh and btw get ready for that Sasol project...

Get ready for the Sasol, CLNG, TLNG, ChLNG, MLNG, etc. etc...
I don't know how many marketing opportunities these expansion projects will hold but the construction industry will start to pick up leading to an influx in population in this area over the next 5-7 years.

There may be some outlying opportunities in the real estate market or service industries that will require marketing personnel.

I have a BS in Marketing and Lake Charles doesn't hold alot of jobs in that field unless you are interested in Sales...
I had to go back to school to become and electrician but I am alot happier for it.
