![]() I always wanted a Jeep and I found a very nice 2011 Wrangler Unlimited. It is the V6 and rated for 3500lbs towing. I have a 21' Kenner Vision...it weighs about 1900 lbs + the 140 HP outboard. The Jeep has 32" tires on it... Do you think it can pull that boat and not go like 40mph on the Interstate? Will it rag it out? I don't want to buy something that can't pull the boat (or shouldn't because it will screw it up). What do y'all think? |

I probably wouldn't. But if your not pulling it far then it might be ok.

If you not pulling it far I would not worry about it.
You could always buy an older cj with a v8 |

The only downfall will be the wheelbase. I pull with a blazer and wish i had a longer wheelbase tow vehicle. If it weighs 1900+ outboard you also have to factor in gas, batteries, gear etc... Weight adds up quick....

Just driving a jeep down the road will rag it out. But an jeep to mess around in and get you a nice late model 1/2 ton truck to pull you boat.

I pulled a trailer with my old CJ but like others said its scary, buy a truck to pull with and get an older jeep to play with or buy you a Taco 4x4 and fix it up plus still pull your toys

Jeeps are for pulling jet skis... If you're into that kind of thing.

Pass on it. Very bad situation that thing could put you in, in a hurry.
It's like hooking a 16' trailer to a 250 four wheeler. Yeah, it'll pull it but, try pulling it at 60-70. |

All good advice guys and exactly what I was feeling in my gut about it. Probably saved me alot of headache and money by getting this input. I'll keep my Explorer Sporttrac with 5500lbs towing (that is almost PD) and get a cool convertible for work. Best of both worlds that way. Thanks!

Just sold my 2004 for that reason. Icould not cross the bridge with a boat behind my jeep even my 16 52 G3that weighed nothing. I did try towing the boat before i put on some 33`s, didnt matter. You`ll regret buying a jeep if u dont have a backup truck just to pull a trailor with or do things trucks do.

I have a 2008 Liberty 4x4. It tows my 21' Baja with big block in it great. Never needed 4x4 pulling out the water. You just have to be careful stopping it when wet. If I tow a long distance I use my wife's Suburban.

I've got a Wrangler Unlimited with 35's. Don't plan on taking it far.
