Jugs with treble hooks, run a large mullet on the trebble hooks, and set in a canal. How we do it when in JB

I use PVC pipe filled with foam and capped.
I didn't let it sit on bottom. I used Mullet hanging about 1' below the pipe. |

I have found that fishing it like that catches more catfish and alligators. Also it is a little easier to catch the float with the extra line. Warren |

I had 10' of string rolled up on the pipe and held with a rubber band.
Just the leader hangs down. Never caught a gator on one, but know those who did. I have caught a lot of Catfish also, but I ain't complaining about that. |

Thanks for the info fellas. I have had some great ideas thrown to me out here. I will definately post my pics when I catch a few. Planning on setting out some lines on the old river and salt water barrier areas. Hope they pan out!

My friend lives in the last house on River Rd. He has a big maroon and white house boat behind his house.
There are some rocks along his bank. It is full of garfish. You can see them very well when the water is clear. |

Whenever y'all set up your jugs do you use a weight on it or do you just let it float on its own?

I use a small weight. If you have frozen mullet, they will float. That is when the alligators will get your bait.

Do you put the weight on the same line as the mullet or do you attatch another line to the jug just for the weight?

I put it just above the hook, on the leader, to keep the fish down below the surface.

And set them out right a daylight or before.
You will do best for the couple hours just after daylight. |

How long do you let the lines soak before going to check them?

I used to set at dark and pick up before the sun came up. Now I set them out and anchor somewhere in the middle of them and watch. If one starts running good, I go get it. Warren |

I put them out early in the morning.
I start at the end of a dead end canal and set towards the mouth of the canal. That way none get away. When they start dancing, I'd go pick them up. Or wait at least a couple hours. |

Correct me if I heard wrong but I was told of a good spot off of Goss Ferry area. It is on the back water area just north of Old Town Road.
