FlagUS Primitive deer season

Need a little info. Have been out of the primitive hunting season for quiet sometime, but would like to start back.
Everyone tells me they shoot something else besides the old style muzzle load.
Would someone be so kind in telling what caliber rifle this is?
I do know it is a single shot rifle, just don't know the caliber.

Thanks in advance

I believe it has to do with the year the design was made. Because not all single shot rifles are legal.

Check out LDWF website for exact regs on approved primitive rifles, but its something like this:
Single shot rifle
Pre 1900's or replica
Exposed hammer
35 caliber or larger

A lot of people like to shoot the 45/70, 444 or 35 whelen by H&R or CVA for primitive season in Louisiana

The 444 Marlin is a very sweet gun. I had one for years until someone wanted it more than I did

I now only use my CVA Wolf 50Cal. It is a very nice gun out to 150yds, anything beyond that and you need and you really need rifle or a long range muzzle loader made by Johnston (http://ultimatefirearms.com/modelsprices.php).

I had a 45/70 but I lost it back in April when my house got broke into, so I replaced it with a 35 whelen... I love the whelen, it's a much flatter shooting gun than the 45/70. Out past 100 yards the 45/70 drops off a lot.
