Why don't you ask Bill Kenner that question?? I did and his response was what Alpha said. This was just a couple of years after BJ came out and he could of been messing with me. Don't know.

Place 4 rods in the storage standing on the ground and then reverse steps

Then take 4 rods and place em n the boat and put em in the storage then reverse steps.

I didn't give an answer to why the design was made.

Ok ok. You have a point. Im 6'2 and it is easier for me, anyone that is 6' and above to load rods from the side while standing on the ground. Ill call the manufacturer and see what they say... And get back with ya.

I have noticed that the rod locker lids do open into the boat, we all know Bill Kenner is the Grandpa of bay boats but I must say that is simply a bad design. With that being said no boat is design perfect.

If this was the intended purpose then wouldnt all of the side lids open toward the inside of the boat? Because if i recall right the rear hatches open toward the outside?

I use mine every time I go out, and it's nice to lock then in there over night or on the way home if I have stops to make.

If mine opened to the inside, I would be able to reach well enough to take advantage of it from outside the boat anyway - the bow is high when trailered. I'm in and out the boat anyway when I'm getting ready to go because I don't leave anything in it that I'm not willing to give away!

Could it be they were able to make the lids and openings a little larger by mounting the hinges in that position?
