Default Power Trim Issues

Seems like my power trim has developed a mind of it's own. I can raise the motor all the way up and as soon as I take my finger off the switch, you can hear the motor running, it starts going back down just until the motor touches the 2 rods coming out then it stops.

Any suggestions on where to start looking for the issue. I am not a boat mechanic but am old enough to purchase beer or steak dinner for someone that may know what the issue is......

Sounds like a switch issue or short on the "down" side

Sometimes it does but not all the time. With the engine idling you can hear it running then it stops for a few seconds and back on and off the whole time.

Which switch, the one on the throttle or the one on the engine. When I use either one I still have issues so it's not tied to just one switch when this happens.....

Relays.........One for up & one for down, they are famous for sticking. They can be interchanged, both are the same relay just one for up & one for down, most everybody says switch but 9 times out of 10 its the relay, they are located under the cowling. usually about $10-$15 a piece, had this problem a couple times, bought 2 new ones & replaced, took the used good one that was on the motor & vacuumed sealed it & left it in boat for a back up. Had one stick in the down position while trying to put the boat on the trailer, I couldn't pull it out the water without tearing the skeg of the motor! Won't happen again!

btw...........when it is above the rods its on tilt, when it's on the rods that's your trim. So I'd say the down Tilt relay is stuck.
