Default Sandies vs. Specs Question-s

Scenerio:

OK... you're in a spot that has both Sand Trout and Spec's. By your catch, the Sandies seem to outnumber Specs 10 to 1. Also say that both seem to prefer live shrimp.

Question:

How can you just successfully target Spec's? I'm fishing a few spots where the Sand Trout are all over the bait before a Spec has a chance.

Any thoughts, Ideas, Suggestions besides move...?

I wouldnt think there would be a way to do this... Maybe try a heavier jig head and get deeper... Or try topwater... Never had a sandie eat a spook yet.

The best way to get away from the sand trout is to wait about another month and they'll be gone lol. They are everywhere right now

Stop using live shrimp and throw a catch 2000 or topwater and you catch 100% trout

Sounds like you can give that cast net a rest and spend that wasted time catching more trout.::

Just happens I bought a few top waters yesterday. Aside from trial and error, any
general guidelines?

Don't set the hook too soon. When you get a strike wait until you feel weight then set and reel

BINGO!

Try to fish higher in the water column with some bigger baits

Catch 2000 is a topwater or suspending bait? I've picked them up many times but never purchased... fill me in please.
