Anyone have any info on Vernon? Thinking anout hitting a few honey holes up there this weekend. Any body know how much the lake has come up recently or clarity? Any help is greatly appreciated and I will post a report if I go.

If it is Vernon Lake in Leesville, LA. Yes. water is over the spillway about 6"
Visibility is about 3' down and you can not see any stumps. Stay in the boat lanes as the stumps are about 6" below water or so

Thanks, Jordan. Yes Vernon Lake, or lake Vernon as I learned it growing up, is in Vernon Parish. Part of it can be seen from hwy. 171. If the water temps are right we should do pretty well along the creeks and edges of the spawning flats. Anyone been recently?

I went about 3 weeks ago. Red crawfish crank baits made by rebel were outfishing me 8 to 1. I was using a black rebel crawfish crank. Color makes a difference. Sacs will be on next month. All this fresh water has the fish going stir crazy. Weather is playing a big factor as well as the moon phase. Cant go wrong beating the banks with a white spinner bait or chatter bait. Been hearing alot of word around town that people are tightlining live shiners about 10-18' down above brush and pulling in bass, sacs, and cats. Might can give that a try. I fish vernon alot with my buddy. If ya need any help or any tips, let me know.

Well fellas, our trip wasn't real productive. We braved the winds and high barometric pressure only to catch five slot fish. It was very nice just to be back out on Vernon though. Just a reminder to all, check your u-bolts, leaf springs, and other trailer hardware often. Us boys from SWLA who enjoy both salt and freswater fishing can sometimes forget about the damage saltwater can do to a boat trailer. My lack of maintenance on my trailer made itself evident in downtown Deridder saturday afternoon when the u-bolt on one side of my axle gave way causing the other side to break too. This left only the main leaf spring to pin the axle under the trailer. Blown out tire, fenders torn to hell, all new springs and mounting hardware, and a $250 towing bill to haul it home. What a day.

Jordan, there was nothing any of us could've done. Putting it on a flat bed was the only option. I was able to find some old humps and creek channels we used to fish. I fixed the trailer already, cant wait to get back up there.

What's the best way to get to lake vernon from Lafayette? I'd like to try and get some of those bass am mad at them right now.

T and F. You can take 49 north to Alexandria then take 28 west and you will hit hwy 171 go north about 8-10 miles and it's on the left. Or you can take I-10 to exit 64 which will be hwy 26 I believe and come to deridder, take 171 north and go through leesville and it's 8-10 miles from the outskirts to leesville. Might be better off finding a route via mapquest gonna take u about 2-3 hrs depending on how fast u drive and what route u take

Your other option is to take I-10 to Lake Charles and then go north on Hwy 171. The first 5 miles on Hwy 171 is 40 to 50 mph, then it is 4 lane hwy @ 65 mph the rest of the way.

This would be few miles longer..... but probably smoother drive pulling the boat.
