Default Mayhaw tree question

My inlaws have 3 trees that need attention and I am seeking advice because I have never taken care of these but love the jelly from them. The trees are pretty big, about 15-20' tall, and I know they need fertilizer but I am not sure what all to put on them nor am I sure if they need trimmed. ... who has some and what do yall do to take care of them.

I don't have the link but LSU Ag Center has a huge write up and time table for fertilizing, etc..... on trees in case you can't find anyone to help out.

For my pear tree and other fruit trees.....

I put out 13-13-13 usually in Feb. after there has been a week of 65+ F temperature. Somewhere around a pound or 1.5 lbs per inch diameter. I use a small cup and "toss" the fertilizer up in the air about 10 feet out around the plant drip line. Toss it up in the air, spreads it out fairly good to keep it even around the plant.

Then in late May or June......sometimes I put out a little more. How much depends on how the plant has grown during the spring. Don't put out very much or it could be too much while the fruit is growing.

Watering after fertilizing is good.....but I usually don't do it.

I was leaning towards just putting trip 13 or trip 16 but wasn't sure if lime or urea or anything else would help better or in addition...

Jobes Fertilizer spikes for citrus and fruit trees at Lowes or Stines. The package tells you exactly how many spikes per inch of tree trunk, where to put them and what time of the year to put them. Fool proof, easy and very effective.
