Default Butte 6/23

Conditions seemed to be perfect yesterday afternoon, overcast with light drizzle. We put in in the canal around 3pm and on my 4th cast a nice bass smashed my frog. So we thought it was ON! but it was not. We did not boat another fish all afternoon. The water is clear but it looks really black, not sure if thats good or bad. We ended up missing a few more decent fish and had the gar hitting the frogs to keep it interesting. Didnt see many other boats. Not sure what the deal was, at least we didnt scratch. Im waiting on Trev to send me the pic and ill post it. All i have now is a pic of this gator that destroyed his frog and got hooked in the leg.

i'm pretty sure this is a different kind of black water we are talking about here fool. The reason this water has turned black because of its low levels of oxygen and you can actually smell it. Its become close to stagnant in a sense. One way to tell is to look to see if the bubbles from passing boats are staying on top of the water for long periods of time.

I fish black water all the time, but different sort of black and we catch fine.

I know now what your referring to. My canal leading to our marsh is like that kinda. Just stagnant nasty water.

This river is tidal, but black water

so if the bubbles stay for a while does it mean less oxygen or more?

Yea very tanic Water....I think its caused by the Nitrogen released from Plant decay which in turn decreases O2 levels......a guy we passed said that their were hundreds of dead fish in the cut leading into the butte
