Cocodrie Trout and Fast Action
This morning began with light rain on the radar and the future cast showing thunderstorms popping up right over the trout hole. Getting our live shrimp was easy at No Wait Live Bait. Once on step, I pointed the Blue Wave toward the big island and stopped at a recently productive spot. After a few casts the fish that weren't there let us know they weren't. Another move to another recently productive spot proved to be unfruitful as well. After an hour with no bites we finally decided to change area codes. I didn't have a good feeling at all and needed to change our luck. We jumped over to the next island and the sun came out and suddenly I felt like we were going fishing now. The water changed to beautiful emerald green and I had a good feeling. We hit a spot that I haven't been to in a long long time and began fishing. I was throwing plastic and my customers live shrimp. They weren't getting any bites on the shrimp and I could tell it was frustrating. I kept trolling the set of pilings and five minutes later all hell broke loose! I caught a double on the plastic and that was all I needed to see to switch everyone over to plastic. Amid the frenzy, I quickly set the Motorguide on anchor and we began to wreck them. When the smoke cleared and the bite died we had 65 laying on the floor. My customers were ecstatic and that was enough for them. They were extremely happy with what had just happened and were satisfied with that. Sometimes it's not all about a limit and that's 10 more trout for someone else to catch. We took it to the dock and it felt good.
