Default Glare

I have a Lowrance HDS8 that is great when it's dark or overcast.......whenever it's bright outside I can't see the screen.....anyone have any suggestions? No matter which way I tilt it I have the same problem. Makes it tough to follow tracks through the marsh....

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

shouldnt take much effort to build a small shade box for it to cover the direct sun like a visor, it may not be pretty but it will work. do some cardboard mockups until you find what works best then you can make a permanent one that's more finished looking to look like it was meant to be.

I would never do it but it all depends on the value you put into the finder so maybe if you sanded the screen with 600 grit sand paper or a green pot scrubber to give the screen a flat finish instead of shiny, it might dull it enough not to shine glare but not effect your view of the screen

I'm sure this may be a dumb question, but did you turn the brightness up? My 7 And 10 are visible just fine on the sunniest days.

What kind of unit do you have? With Costas, you have to be directly behind it.

It could be the brightness setting or..... the contrast setting.

I had a similar problem with my hand held GPS. Could not read the screen very good. After changing the contrast setting...... wow, what a difference.

Brightness is up and yes with my Costas on it's nearly impossible on sunny days. I did find a site that sells an anti glare film to put on it. For $20 I'll probably order and see if if works.

Did you look to see if there is a "Contrast" setting that you could change?

Polarized lenses can block the led display if you are at an improper angle or your head is tilted, try it without the sunglasses
