Default West Cove

Just learning the Big Lake area. Been fishing the black lake area, catching a few reds. Would like to venture into West Cove and fish for specks. small boat (15'). Figured I can launch at the West Cove Launch off of 27.

What is the basic run down on West Cove...not looking for spots or anything. just the 30,000' view of how to fish the area.

Is it reefs, shoreline, birds, bait running?

top water early over the reefs?
Are the reefs common knowledge and easy to get coordinates, or are they marked?
Chasing birds working and bait running later in the morning?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yes.

Just gotta go with the flow. Whatever works for that day. One day the whole place might be solid birds then no birds the next. Bait might be everywhere or you might not be able to find it. Gotta just be mobile and go with what works at that time.

Coming out of the West cove boat launch, If you go straight out into the middle about 3/4 mile there is a very big oyster reef [I don't know if the oyster fishermen wiped it out??].

There are many other reefs in West cove or you can usually catch some Reds or flounder along the banks.

There are a few kind of shallow areas, so keep this in mind...... not shallow enough now to get stuck, but you could turn up some mud.
