Need Salt Ditch Help
I saw old post and most of the fish caught were reds. Do you fish the cuts going into the lake? Any time of the year better? Any specks? Thanks Big ND Fan |

The only time I have seen it very good, strong outgoing tide...north wind helps too that will make even a lower and stronger outgoing tide. We have picked up some specs there too, nothing special.

Fishing can be really good. Like the others said falling tide is key. Cuts leading into the marsh are good for redfish. In the cold part of the winter do not be afraid to anchor at the cut and cast back to the deeper water working back to the boat.

West of Ellender bridge off the intracoastal. Take you to Black Lake. |

When fishing that strong tide...... you will need a 1/2 oz. [or larger] jig head.
I saw some guys catching reds in a strong current using some "garlic" dip on the soft plastic baits. |

be careful back there, there are some very shallow spots, i didn't want to go back the way I came, and wanted to just pass under the bridge by spicers to get back to big lake. Bad mistake, one wrong turn and I was screwed so bad I had to get out and push. oyster shells, deep mud, and shorts are a terrible combination!

I fish salt ditch alot, same as what everyone else said, wasting your time if the north wind and tides aren't going out. When the marshes empty then you will catch, other then that just killing time. Best trips there were in worst conditions, 30 degrees, 20 mph north wind and tide pouring out. Not many trout in there this time of year.

Thanks for all the advice. I will explore the area on my next trip during an outgoing tide.
