choke choice for Turkey
I shoot a 12 gauge browning but have used it only for duck, dove, and skeet. What choke do you guys prefer when huting turkey? Also, what shells do you recommend? Any other recommendations on what gear I will need or should bring? Thanks in advance. Hope to post a good report Sunday. |

HS Strut Undertaker has always worked for me. We shot 2 of em last weekend dead as a hammer wit a patternmaster long range, but they were only 10 and 15 yards away.

Just make sure to shoot your gun with whatever you buy. Ideally you would buy several boxes of shot and pattern your gun, but a regular full choke is plenty good. Get em within 30 yards and its lights out with a full. Shot size will be 4, 5, or 6. Bring something to repel mosquitoes and something to cover your face, and some comfortable boots!
good luck with em, hope you hear one gobbling close up |

Like spunt drag said. We killed 2 this weekend with a pattern master extended range using hevi shot #6. I also have a jellyhead choke that's worked good I've killed em with a .410. If they are close and you make a good shot they are pretty easy to drop. Doesn't hurt to have and extended range choke incase they hang up out there 40 yards. But a regular full choke with heavy load of 6s will suffice.

I don't really choke 'em; lift 'em up by the neck, swing them downward 'tl you have some speed, and right as the tension in the neck peaks, give 'em a firm flick of the wrist, and they are painlessly euthanized and ready for further processing.
