Crevalle Jack at Calcasieu Pass Jetties
My first Crevalle Jack, 22 lbs, 41 inches long. We filleted him, and his meat was really very good, somewhere between redfish and tuna: great on the grill. |

We've tried carp, and carp and hardhead catfish are about the worst we've tried. Crevalle Jack is much, much better than carp. We'll definitely keep the next one we catch. It's odd how much people repeat myths about how fish taste that they've never tried. |

I have eaten Jack Crevalle before. I soaked in a brine over night and then smoked it. It wasn't bad.

I ate some that was smoked and made into a tuna salad type... It wasn't bad but not enough to make me want to keep one lol.

Mathgreek,,, me and you have been friends for a while but you can not degrade fish like Tuna and Redfish compared to JC
JC is no way in the same area code as tuna and far from redfish. I cleaned a JC before and my dog would not eat it lol

I gave one to a couple fellows fishing off the bank one time and they thought it was a tuna. I didn't tell em no different. They threw it in their new trash csn they just bought at Wal mart and chunked it in the trunk and high fived all the way outa sight.
